About Studio A

Encore Studios was built in the early 1970’s by well-known studio owner Ken Duncan.  Encore was originally part of Ken Duncan’s larger studio complex called Kendun Recorders that also included the studio now known as Glenwood Place, just a few doors down. The studio was designed by famed studio designer Tom Hidley and later updated by Vincent Van Hoff of the Waterland Group.

The studio has a grand history of hit records and great engineer/producers that have called Encore home over the last 30 years. Historic records including Michael Jackson’s Thriller were recorded at Encore on one of the first SSL mixing consoles that was ever built. Tom Lord Alge called Encore home for his out-of-this-world mixing for such artists as KISS, Sarah McLaughlin, Green Day, and Journey. Famed mix engineer Barney Perkins called Encore home for many years working with the elite rock and R&B artists of the era such as Patti Labelle, Steely Dan, Anita Baker, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. (Coincidentally when Adam and Mike were first starting out at Paramount in the late 80’s they actually purchased the original SSL Console from Encore at that time to install in Studio A at Paramount.)

Paramount purchased Encore in 2004 and the studio went through a large renovation of both studios and lounges, the addition of full gourmet kitchen, and the installation of a 104 channel SSL J9000 console in Studio A.  There was also an extensive refurbishment of the 80 channel G+ console that was moved from Studio A into Studio B to replace the aging G series SSL.
